ELECTIVE SYNOPSIS

This History elective will introduce students to key historical events such as the Second World War and the US Civil Rights Movement. Students will explore how these events had a significant impact on Australia during the mid and second half of the 20th Century. It will allow students to investigate scale and significance of historical turning points in Australia’s past within the context of global events. Events such as the Fall of Singapore, the bombing of Hiroshima and the 1967 Referendum will be investigated. Students taking this elective will analyse the causes and effects of events and developments and explain their significance. They will develop skills that enable them to explain the context for people’s actions in the past and evaluate the significance of events. Students will analyse the different interpretations of the past and recognise the evidence used to support these interpretations.
