Keep up to date with everything happening in Low.Tech Wednesdays with Shirley

"If you can imagine it, you can create it!"

To inspire a love for learning, reading, inquiry and innovation.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CRE8TION HUB TERM 1

Rock Art Painting: what a great start to the year. Twenty children joined us for this activity and created some wonderful rock art creations, from bugs to fish to a bridal team. It's inspiring to watch the children imagine and create with a few designing their ideas on paper first.

Library Lover's Week February 14, 2023. This week we will be making mini notebooks, zines and flip books.

For some real fun we are going to be making glow in the dark flying saucers. We are really looking forward to seeing the creativity this will bring out of the children and hopefully they can send us some photos of their creations in the dark.

Purim is only a few days away. Students will be able to create festive party poppers using paper cups, balloons and some decorating material. It's a simple activity with a loads of fun to be had after. We will encourage students to think of different ways they can create a game with their toy and maybe team up with other students to enjoy.

Can't draw? Not every student feels confident drawing free hand. This is where grid drawing can be a real confidence booster. Student can choose from a variety of templates from transport, nature, cartoon characters, food, animals and more to help them complete a drawing. Our motto in Low Tech sessions is 'yes you can!'

Surprise project for this week to be announced as we get close to to the date. Watch this space!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CRE8TION HUB TERM 2

Students began the Term creating marble mazes from box lids. They used a variety of materials to create their pathways, straws, sticks, styrofoam, bottle lids, beads, carboard tubes and off cuts. It was really pleasing to see two students work together to create one maze. It required discussion and negotiation in regards to what they wanted their maze to look like and which materials to use. Great team work.

No Cre8tion Hub this week due to Yom Ha'Atzmaut activities.

Students continued and completed their marble mazes. Well done to everyone for your creativity.

Students began with their seed collage by designing on paper first before commencing with glueing the lentils, beans and seeds. They learnt the word 'biomorphic' referring to artistic design elements mimicking naturally occurring patterns or shapes from nature.

Week 6 students will begin making a climbing sloth as part of National Simultaneous Storytime. The following week they will be able to design the outfit for the sloth and add the climbing elements.

It's raining indoors. Not quite. Today students started on making rainmakers. The really interesting part of these rainmakers is the foil coil we made first to insert inside the cardboard tube. This gave rise to a discussion about the why. Why a foil coil? How pleasing when one of the students instantly understood the mechanics of the coil - to slow down the passage of the rice inside the tube which creates a slower sound movement.

AUTUMN SEED ART

Term 2 week 4 & 5 students will have an opportunity to create bean & seed collages. They will be encouraged to think about design and patterns before beginning on their project. The three principles of collage are contrast, repetition and layering. Let's see what they come up with.
